China Becomes Second-largest LNG Importer

China’s LNG imports increased almost 50% in 2017, overtaking South Korea as the world’s second-biggest importer of liquefied natural gas. Winter demand is currently boosting this increase and China’s imports of LNG hit a record of 5.03 million last December.

“We are expecting to see even higher surges in winter demand over the next three to four years as the Chinese government pushes more broadly its gas-for-coal drive,” said Wang Wen, Beijing-based gas analyst with at Wood Mackenzie.

The significant boost on Asia’s LNG spot prices will be one of the main topics at the upcoming CWC China LNG & Gas International Summit & Exhibition, taking place at the exclusive Park Hyatt Hotel, Beijing on 25-26 April, 2018.

This high-calibre Summit will be a unique opportunity to meet with established and emerging LNG buyers who are driving LNG demand in China and globally. The 4th CWC China LNG & Gas Summit and Exhibition will focus on the latest regulation updates and offer detailed discussions on global supply & demand, LNG trading and transportation and how LNG as a fuel is creating new demand. The three Chinese NOCs and regional LNG buyers will meet with international gas suppliers, IOCs and global LNG experts to network and explore the critical role of China in the global LNG market.
